Resident Spotlight: Elizabeth Kvassay

Elizabeth Kvassay was born and raised in Budapest, Hungary. After much communist oppression in Hungary, Elizabeth and her husband were finally able to marry. They married at 5 o'clock in the morning. Elizabeth recalls her wedding music as the chandeliers shaking, due to the tanks rolling by outside. Elizabeth and her husband escaped from communist law on their honeymoon, and arrived in the United States on December 22, 1956. At that time Elizabeth spoke no English. She only knew how to say, "Good Morning," "Yes," and "No." Her first job was at St. Francis Hospital, where she handed out job applications, a pencil, and a smile! She later took a job as a cook, making 75 cents an hour! Elizabeth now enjoys cooking classes, hosting family gatherings, and socializing with her friends at The Regent!
